‘How often do models over 40 get the opportunity to showcase their creativity and then throw in the word plus size and it narrows it down even further. I wanted to be able to showcase my strength as an older model and to offer a different element of my personality in the shoot. I really do think the fashion industry is slowly getting better at including older models but this seems to be focusing on the over 60+ generation whereas middle aged 40-50 don’t get represented. We have so much to offer, with age comes a different confidence and I have a real passion for what I’m doing. Why are we so invisible in the fashion industry?
Walking on set to see rails of high end designer clothes that would fit me as a size 14-16 with a 34G chest was super exciting but also reminded me how ridiculous that this is not the normal in the industry and holds so many models back.
I have never done an editorial shoot like this before and I was nervous about being able to pull it off but I am so glad that I got the opportunity and it has left me wanting more.
Thank goodness we have magazines like Féorce that are constantly encouraging people to step out of the comfort zone and keep pushing the boundaries. Times are changing and I want to be part of it.’ - Rachel Peru (Model)
